Jane Byers Bierhorst was one of the leading typographers and designers of children's books from the 1960s through the early 2000s and her husband, Jack is an author and folklorist specializing in the lore of indigenous Americans. <br /><br /> <br /><br /> E M Maurice Books is pleased and honored to present the collection of Jane, Jack and their daughter, Alice. The collection includes a selection of their personal books as well as books designed by Jane and / or written by Jack; children's book-related posters; examples of Jane's work; and original artwork, correspondence and ephemera from familiar names in the children's book industry. The collection includes works by Maurice Sendak, James Marshall, Steven Kellogg, Antonio Frasconi, Leo & Diane Dillon, and Gerald McDermott, to name a few.

Highlights include a number of scarce works by authors such as Georgia Douglas Johnson and Sarah Farro (the third known published African-American woman novelist), Nancy Cunard's Negro Anthology, signed books by polar explorer Matthew Henson and Martin Luther King, Jr, and a second edition of Narrative of Sojourner Truth in the original wraps.
An eclectic mix of new arrivals featuring a signed first edition of Irma Rombauer's The Joy of Cooking, a signed first edition of Isaac Asimov's sci-fi classic I, Robot, and a lock of Richard Brautigan's hair.
Manuscripts come in all sizes. Size is one of the most important clues to how a book was used. It is also the most difficult attribute of a book to convey by means of digital images.
